The land on which the allotments stand is known as Morleys Field and this is where the Morley Allotments Association gets its name from.

The land was originally owned by the Earl of Normanton and was leased to the Parish Council for the purposes of allotments in 1896. At the time it was divided into 54 plots each of 300 square yards.

The land was then purchased by Mr William Wakefield who granted a fifteen year lease in 1909 and renewed that lease until his death when the land passed into the stewardship of the Lucette Trust. Mr Wakefield had a great affection for Welford and his wishes were that the land be used for the benefit of the Parishioners.
